Fabiano Lucas and his Capoeira Balance Samba Group, perfoms a show for all ages and diversity of audiences. The show combines a varition
of afro-Brazilian rythms and dances, high-energy gymnastics, martial arts and exotic costumes to create an unforgettable
event!
The group performs the unique art of "Capoeira", a form of martial arts created by Africans slaves
in the 16th century in the time that they worked at the sugarcane plantations of Brazil. A combinationn of music, dance,
gymnastics and martial arts (self-defense), Capoeira is known by it's fast foot work, daring leaps, and split-second timing!
All audiences and schools get very impressed by the fast-paced, graceful choreography and breathtaking back flips, handspins
and cartwheels.
A Capoeira Professor, Fabiano has been practcing this art form for 14 years, as he started learning
when he was about 13 years old. For many years he studied and also taught under his Capoeira Master in his
home town Braganca Paulista in the state of Sao Paulo ( where has was three times regional champion and twice
state champion), until he received an invitation to come to America and teach and perform his art of capoeira with
the mission of exposing other people to his culture, while preserving all its tradition!
" Capoeira helped me to became who I am today, teaching me discipline, respect for others, self-confidence
and spiritual equilibrium" says Fabiano. Since he arrived he performed in many theaters and schools in Connecticut,
Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, California, Pensylvania, MA and others. He also thought in many schools and universities
like Uconn, Yale, Quinnipiac University, Albertus Magnus College, Norwalk Community College.
Capoeira Balance also performs "Maculele", a very energetic and colorful stick dance
created by Africans, a kind of ritual used by the Africans as a way for them to recover the energy from battles, and
in the slavery time (in Brazil) from a long day of work in the sugarcane plantations. As the grand finale the group
performs the "Samba" which is the national rythm and dance of Brazil and soul of the biggest Brazilian celebration,
the "Carnaval", an annual four-day festival.
